Parents Lead By Example March 5, 2008

I am the biggest role model in my son’s life and therefore must lead by example in everything including diet and exercise. I noticed my son was growing wider and not taller when I was trying to find him a pair of jeans. I had to select pants that were in the huskies size. With so many other stresses in life that he has to deal with I had hoped that weight would not be one of them. I asked my husband to hook up the cable in our exercise room and tuned into cartoons and told my son that he needed to spend 20 minutes a day walking on the treadmill. He now does it every day after school without fail. I also make sure we go on walks to the dog park, play basketball, and go on bike rides through out the week. I started looking for child nutrition resources and found a variety of helpful articles, interactive games, and coloring pages for kids. My son loves to play pyramid blast off which is an interactive game that teaches him daily nutrition and exercise needed daily to reach planet power. Check out the following websites for articles, games and more!

Infant Milk Allergy February 21, 2008

Anyone can have a milk allergy but it is more common among infants. If you believe that your child may have a milk allergy contact your primary care physician. Your physician can run tests that can diagnose and confirm the milk allergy in addition to offering alternatives to milk-based formulas and dairy products.

Your new born may exhibit the following symptoms that would indicate having a milk allergy; loose stools (possibly containing blood), vomiting, gagging, refusing food, irritability or colic, and skin rashes.

Once you know your infant has an allergy to cow and soy milk the next step is to find formula specifically made with a hypoallergenic formula.
